Whilst researching relevant documentaries for my research and planning section I watched David Attenborough's Planet Earth 2. This documentary on BBC1 was hugely popular at the beginning of the year with the God of natures words and wisdom. The shots conveyed in the documentary have helped with inspiration of what we both want to film at Bristol Zoo.

![]() The Secret Life the Zoo documentary series on Channel 4 reveals the secret life of animals and staff at Chester Zoo. This series is important in our research for zoo themed documentary and has helped give us inspiration for different shot types and camera angles we could use when we go to film in the new year. Interviews: interviews are an important part of this particular documentary whether they are sat down one with carefully placed mise en scene or while the zookeepers are doing there duties and talking, whilst explaining what they are doing in the interview Voice of God/Narrator: Olivia Colman narrates the each episode of the documentary and with her calming voice, even when an animal is ill, she still makes it seem okay. She is the voice of authority in this documentary and it helps bring the footage and interviews together to help the producers convey what they (as an audience) want to see. Archive Footage: There is only a small bit of archive footage when they talk about the history of the zoo and previous famous animals they have looked after at the zoo. Whilst in the planning of our documentary, want a section for this as when in contact with the zoo, they gave us access to archive footage of Bristol Zoo that we could use once our filming agreement had be signed. This is something we want to have more of in our documentary. Facts and stats: There are plenty of stats used throughout the documentary - this helps back up the factual knowledge of the zoo keepers and adds to the effect of the series. We will definitely look at facts to use of Bristol Zoo (e.g: year it opened, famous animals, landmarks) to help when we create our documentary. |
